The situation
A property developer with fewer than 100 people moved to new offices. Nobody had ordered an internet line for the new office, and the line at the old one was already cancelled. The firm had no cloud infrastructure: every server ran on the premises. So in the new office nothing worked, remote access included.
What we did
A connection first. We set up an LTE router with a fixed IP address and an international roaming SIM.
The servers and the VPN behind it. The servers on the premises and the VPN ran over the LTE connection, so the firm could work again, in the new office and from outside.
Then the fibre, as fast as it would go. We pushed the fibre order through as fast as we knew how.
What happened next
The office ran on LTE for four and a half months, servers and VPN included. Once the fibre was in, the firm switched over to it.
What it shows
A new line can take months, as it did here: order it well before the move date. And where servers still run on the premises, keep a plan B that runs over mobile data, with a fixed IP address.
